Constanta county, together with Tulcea
county, belong to the ancient Dobrogea region, placed on
Pontus Euxin’s West side (today’s Black Sea). The cities of
this region trace their origins back in the antic Greek
times. Thus, today’s Dobrogea region are the oldest ones in
Romania : the old city of Tomis (presntly named Constanta)
celebrated 2500 years of existence in 1991 and also 2250
years from its first documentary testemony;
Callatis(Mangalia), Histria,Axiopolis(Cernavoda).
Along the centuries, life in Dobrogea
has evolved in deep connection both with Roman’s history but
also with different civilisation’s, being an important
crossroad for the Western and the Eastern cultures.
